Savannah Pool Table The Sterling method of construction uses a massive one piece leg that reaches from the floor to the slate. This is incorporated into the table structure wit the exclusive Vitalie L-strut. Similar to mortise &
tenon, the L-strut locks the leg and body apron together while bolts assure the parts stay in position. Again,
body aprons are shorter than alternate methods of construction, up to 25% shorter and thus stronger and

| The Top Rails The Top Rails of a pool table are like the engine of a car. No matter how strong, heavy and beautiful the body is, it is the engine that makes it win the race. It is the Top Rails that make a pool table play with championship quality. A quarter of a century ago Vitalie introduced a wider than normal top rail. It gave the player a firmer support for the hand. A wider top rail is a heavier top rail and creates a more solid and accurate rebound. Many manufacturers have duplicated this over the years sometimes to extremes. We continue this practice with taste and moderation. BENEFIT: Wider top rails support the hand better and provide a more accurate rebound. |
| The Cabinet The inside of the cabinet contains some of the most important structural features. All body aprons have additional 1 ½ inch Tulipwood liners. This creates a 3 to 3 ½ inch wide surface for the slate to sit on and a nice wide surface area for the slate screws. The cross braces are also solid 8/4 Tulipwood lumber set in a wooden support and are bolted into place. Being bolted to the body aprons the cross braces act much like the supports on a bridge to further reinforce and prevent frame fatigue in future decades. Coupled with the strength and structure of the cabinets this creates the strongest production pool tables ever, but we don’t stop there. We also have long bracing to complete the picture. The fact is there is more hardwood lumber inside a Vitalie cabinet than some pool tables have in their entire presentation. BENEFIT: Bolted cross braces prevent frame fatigue. |
| The Slate All Vitalies have an oversized, matched, precision honed, natural slate bed with a slate liner. Oversized simply means the slate extends beyond the visible playfield so the top rails bolt through the slate. The slate liner acts as a buffer to help eliminate vibration. It also creates an area for the billiard cloth to be stapled to and provides a heavy finished throat in the pocket area. As the slate liner is physically between the slate and the top of the cabinet it is important that it be as uniform as possible and completely free of the ability to warp or compress over time. This is the one area where a manufactured wood product has an advantage. The slate liner is MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). It is superior to lumber because every sheet and piece is exactly the same thickness and because it is a structured product it can not warp, twist or compress over time. This makes it superior in this application to lumber or plywood. It has been recommended by the Italian slate producers as the preferred slate liner because of its uniformity. BENEFIT: A precision slate bed provides the proven flattest, longest lasting playing surface. That guarantees the pool table will last for many generations. |
